About The Department

The Department of History has been a part of Lilabati Mahavidyalaya since its establishment on 6th August 2013. The department started its general degree course the same year the College itself was inaugurated. Honours course in History is commenced from 2017 academic year to cater a wide range of academic interests and career aspirations.

The curriculum emphasized the critical thinking and analytical skills. The course incorporates a wide-ranging historical periods and geographical regions which help students to gain a multifaceted knowledge. The students of this course are enlightened with the history of the different period of ancient and modern world. The Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) under CBCS mode introduced by North Bengal University in 2018 is designed to provide the students the vast knowledge on museums, archives, heritage, popular culture, art and architecture etc.

The Department of history, Lilabati Mahavidyalaya is maintained by the devoted and experienced faculty members, who are committed to contribute to high-quality education. It focuses on the development of deep understanding on historical developments and events among the students.

Mrs. Pem Chheday Bhutia is the first Assistant Professor to join the Department of History on 17/12/2016. Since her joining she has been guiding students through her decent knowledge of historical methodologies and a passion for teaching. Her proficient and innovative teaching approaches have contributed to the department’s academic quality.

Mr Prodip Mandal joined the department on 1st January, 2020. He has been involved in guiding students through the intricacies of historical study and understanding along with the interactive and dynamic approach to studying history.

Mr Laxmipada Roy also became a part of the department on 1st January, 2020. His presence contributed to the department’s academic excellence. He has been involved in guiding students to well prepared for academic and professional success.

Course Outcome:

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Education. Focuses on the foundational principles of education, including philosophy, psychology, and sociology. Includes practical training through teaching internships and workshops. Courses cover educational psychology, pedagogy, curriculum development, and educational technology.

Education encompasses entire areas of life and problems of education and problems of life too. Education provides ample opportunities and experiences to man to get himself acquainted with various problems of life. Gaining of varied experiences for solution of problems of life is considered quite essential for man to live a better and happier life. But such knowledge and experiences are so vast that nobody is able to acquire through acquisition of knowledge and experience even if he continues his endeavors sincerely throughout his life. It provides opportunities to students gather knowledge in the various fields such as educational philosophy, psychology, sociology, history of education, comparative education, economics of education, methodology of teaching, educational administration and supervision, population of education. Measurement and Evaluation, Guidance and counseling etc. it also provide opportunities to students for prepare higher studies, such as MA Education, M. Phil, Ph D. B.Ed. , D.El.Ed. , M. Ed. PGDEMA.

Summary of Student Regulations

1. Attendance Requirements:
– Students must attend 75% of lectures and tutorials to be eligible for university exams.
– Continuous absence for more than 7 consecutive days must be reported to the H.O.D. with a written note signed by a parent.
– Attendance on the first and last day of each session, including holidays, is compulsory.
2. Examinations:
– Passing college periodical exams is required to qualify for the university examination.
– Participation in class tests and college selection tests is mandatory.
3. Library Rules:
– Departmental books can be borrowed from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
– Lost, defaced, or damaged books must be replaced by the borrower.
– Books must be issued before taking them out of the department.
– Borrowed books must be returned within a week; they can be reissued if needed.
4. Participation in Departmental Activities:
– Students must participate in departmental events such as exhibitions, class seminars, and special lectures.
5. Classroom Etiquette:
– Students are responsible for keeping the classroom and college surroundings clean.
– Lights and fans should be switched off after class.
