The Department of Political Science marked its journey in 2013 as one of the first few departments of the College. The Department then began offering general course at the undergraduate level, which later in 2018 was approved by the University to offer honours and programme course under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). Recently in 2023 (After the NEP 2020 and SEP 2023) the Department is making a shift towards Four Year Under Graduate Programme (FYUGP) offering both Major and Multi-disciplinary Courses.
The Department is blessed with three young, dynamic and enthusiastic faculties who are willing to share, learn and exchange knowledge and ideas among scholars and students. The teachers here aim to create an environment where there is a free space for learning, exchanging of ideas and mutual respect. A lively academic and cultural ambience and a very cordial teacher-student relationship have always been and hopefully will be the distinctive character of the Department. To enhance and stimulate the young minds the department organizes seminars, workshops, group discussions and movie screenings on a regular interval.
In the central Library, 305 titles/books have been dedicated for the study of Political Science in English and Bengali Language. The Department aims at having interactive classes with quality lectures to mold the students into a better human being and responsible citizens.
As per the CBCS, the intake capacity for Honours’ course in the Department is thirty. However the new intake capacity after the introduction of FYUGP is three hundred thirty three.
The Department of Political Science started with the mission to empower the students from the rural and marginalized background by providing them learning space with quality education. The department aims to instill passion for excellence, develop critical thinking, and acquire skills beyond classroom to finally contribute to the society for better tomorrow.
As the Head of the Department, I feel privileged to express here that my colleagues are always available with passion in creating an environment where they mentor and help with utmost care. The objective of the Department is to nurture, shape and inspire students, to become scholars, researchers and most importantly responsible citizens.
We hope and believe that your visit to our website will bring us close with opportunities.
