About the Department

The Department of Philosophy, Lilabati Mahavidyalaya was established in 2014. It started its journey with around 34 students as an Under Graduate General Degree College. In 2018, the department switched to the CBCS curriculum introduced by the University of North Bengal. Subsequently, the number of students has been rising steadily. An atmosphere of open discussion is encouraged in the department which helps the students to realize the significance of philosophy beyond the curriculum. Student – teacher interaction during classroom teaching as well as during seminars is not limited to the syllabus but transcends into other areas of importance and relevance. We feel very proud of ourselves for being a department where quality subject-oriented studies as well as student development and training through extensive teacher – student interaction are equally emphasized.

Learning Outcome

The study of philosophy draws upon various fields of knowledge like value of education, proper reasoning ability, critical and logical thinking power. This subject not only strengthens the conceptual framework of the students but also sharpens their thinking process and helps them move towards the future by solving and evaluating the problems they face in real life conflicts. After completion of the course, the students are ready to branch out in several occupational fields like civil, management sectors, academics and research work, media, industry, banking services, business and so on.

The faculty of the Philosophy Department at Lilabati Mahavidyalaya excel not only as educators but also as mentors, guiding students in their academic and personal growth.
Students are actively encouraged to organize cultural events within the department, including Fresher’s Welcome, farewell to Seniors, Theachers’ Day, Women’s Dau and Environment Day, fostering creativity and collaboration.
The department’s teachers are proficient it ICT and conduct classes in digital modes, ensureing a modern and effective learning experience.
The Philosophy Department is equpped with a dedicated classroom exclusively allocated for its academic activities, creating a focused and enriching environment for learning.

Future Plan

To launch a departmental journal
To organize UGC/ ICPR-sponsored State/National / International level seminars.
To procure more books for Departmental Library.
To request college Authority to recruit more fulltime faculty in the Department.
